The History of Trenton Children's Chorus

test"/

The Trenton Children's Chorus has been creating fine choral music since being founded by Sue Ellen Page and Marcia Wood in 1989. TCC serves young people in the 2nd grade through high school. It offers rehearsal, music appreciation and theory, rhythm and drumming, supervised homework and tutoring, snack and recreation. Anyone who loves to sing is invited to join.

An audition is required for children in the 5th grade and above. There is a modest membership fee. TCC has performed at the National Cathedral, before the New Jersey State Legislature, in concert with Dave Brubeck and Bobby McFerrin, with Princeton Pro Musica and as the children's chorus in the opera Carmen. In addition, Trenton Children's Chorus identifies and pursues opportunities for its members that they might not ordinarily seek for themselves.

In 2007, TCC performed for various events locally and out of state: The 3rd Annual Taste of Trenton Benefit; Pearson Methodist Church Anniversary; Shiloh Baptist Church; Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Concert with Princeton Day School Choir; Benefit Concert featuring Sweet Honey In The Rock; Greater Trenton Symphony; Boheme Opera, NJ; Spring Into Song, Hopewell Valley Chorus; United Nations Youth Conference on Peace & Nonviolence in NYC; and Woodstream Baptist Church, Baltimore, MD.

Rehearsals are held at First Presbyterian Church, 120 E. State St., Trenton. The Training Choir meets either Tuesday or Thursday after school. The Intermediate Choir meets both Tuesday and Thursday after school. Limited transportation is available. The Young Peoples Division meets Tuesday evening.

At Trenton Children's Chorus, our mission is to give young people the chance to sing a wide range of choral literature, especially those who might not otherwise have an opportunity to do so; and to provide a way for children and youth from different backgrounds to get to know one another through artistic endeavor.
