Commitment to Education

Chorus members in good standing who have been in the program for one year may qualify for scholarships to assist in their education. TCC administers a grant from the Page and Otto Marx, Jr. Foundation that aids its members in educational and cultural enrichment costs such as school tuition, tutoring, private testing and music lessons. TCC also helps place its members in music and enrichment camps during the summer.

Promising students are assigned mentors who assist with application to private high schools and colleges. The Trenton Children's Chorus has made opportunities for further education a reality for chorus alumni. Recent TCC graduates have gained entrance to the Pennington School and the Hun School, and others are now in college through the support of the choir.

TCC is also sensitive to the needs of members and seeks to connect them with the appropriate resources whenever possible. TCC receives volunteer support from psychologists, family counselors, reading specialists and teachers.

Partnership with Hopewell Valley Chorus

The Hopewell Valley Chorus is a generous sponsor of the Trenton Children's Chorus. HVC members come to Trenton each Tuesday and Thursday to tutor, help children with homework, supervise recreation and serve snack.

The Hopewell Valley Chorus features the Trenton Children's Chorus each spring at the Hopewell Valley Chorus Spring Into Song Concert. This annual family event brings together a wide variety of community based groups to perform for and with each other. Proceeds from past concerts have gone to support the work of the Trenton Children's Chorus.

In 2002 the first Spring Into Song Music Camp Scholarship was awarded to Amber Shuman to attend Camp Albemarle, a two-week sleepover camp at the American Boychoir School in Princeton, NJ. The 2003 winner was Mathaniel James, 2004 Sidney Williams, 2005 Joy Johnson and in 2006 three winners were Vickira Jordan, Sadrea Coffie, Micah McKinney.

At Trenton Children's Chorus, our mission is to give young people the chance to sing a wide range of choral literature, especially those who might not otherwise have an opportunity to do so; and to provide a way for children and youth from different backgrounds to get to know one another through artistic endeavor.
