A Special Message from Hopewell Valley Chorus

Below is a special letter sent to the Hopewell Valley Chorus community on Sunday, March 29, when TCC was scheduled to perform for the annual Spring Into Song. Thank you to HVC for all you continue to do to support our Trenton youth!

Dear Fellow Singers,

It’s Sunday, March 29, and it’s 2 p.m. On this very day, at this very hour, we wish were sitting in Central Church, Five Hebrew Love Songs in hand, warming up with more than 150 singers for the 21st annual Spring into Song.

Fate has intervened, but not forever. We look forward to bringing this amazing event back to the community next spring. In addition to the wonderful music we’ll make, contributions from musicians, families, and friends will sustain our history of providing summer camperships for the Trenton Children’s Chorus (TCC). If the programs open up this summer, we want to make sure that Spring into Song camperships will be available. (Please see below.)

And we will be back! Central immediately offered to host us next year. All of our 2020 groups want to join us—not only TCC, of course, but also Voices New Jersey, the Capital Singers of Trenton, and Con Brio, from HVCHS.

We launched Spring into Song in 2000, as a special 40th anniversary event. It was so popular that we hosted it again the following year, and in 2003, we began fundraising to raise camperships for TCC singers. Just by passing baskets through the audience, we were able to sponsor a TCC singer’s participation in the Albemarle summer program at the American Boychoir School.

Year by year, as our basket-passing continued and grew, we were able to add additional camperships that developed not only vocal ability, but also other skills that enrich a choir member’s participation and performance. They included leadership, acting, and jazz appreciation (and composition!). By last year, we had raised more than $60,000, and we had sent at least 65 children to camp.

By March 1 of this year, TCC had lined up this summer’s programs and selected the singers who would participate. While everything’s on hold for now, they may yet be able to go. We hope so!

If you would like to contribute to TCC camperships now, you may view the various options here.

Please tag your donation: “Spring into Song.”

If you would like to donate but prefer to wait until we know if the 2020 summer programs are happening, that’s fine! TCC will let us know, when programs open up, and we will share the good news.

Thank you all and please be safe and stay healthy.
